Fit Tips

Try to paticipate in at least 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity everyday (your breathing and heart rate should increase, and you should feel warm). Here are some ideas to get you physically active:

Boogie - You can dance anywhere, put on the radio, your iPod, a CD or the TV and enjoy dancing to your favourite music.

Get Wet – You don’t have to do lengths of the pool for it to be part of your 60 minutes, you can just have a good splash about with your family or friends.

Ditch the car – For short journies suggest that you walk instead of getting in the car, and for longer journies take the bus but get off a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way.

Play Time – Just running around and playing with friends is an excellent way to achieve your 60 minutes.

Bike Rides – Quicker than walking and still a good way to get active, cycling is a good means of transport but can also be used just for a bike ride.

Sport – There are lots of different Sports Clubs in the local area, why not give one a go?

Make small changes, for example use the stairs instead of the lift or escalator (or walk up the escalator instead of standing)

Try a variety of activities – this will allow you find something that you really enjoy.

Ensure that at least 2 of the weekley activities include high physical stress on bones to aid development for example dancing or running (including playing football, netball, hockey).

Stretch regularly – it will help keep you flexible and can reduce the likelyhood of injuries.

Make sure that you get your 5 A DAY as part of a balanced diet.

Drink plenty of fluids.

Don’t smoke.

HAVE FUN
